Do you find that foods do not taste as they used to? Here are a few ideas for you to try.
Marinate red meat and poultry, using:
-Soy sauce.
-Yogurt marinade: Mix ½ cup plain Greek yogurt (2% M.F.), 1 tbsp lemon juice, 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley, ½ tbsp minced garlic, ½ tsp salt, ½ tsp dried oregano, and ¼ tsp ground cloves.
Brine meat: Dissolve ½ cup salt in 2 litres water. Optional: add minced garlic, honey and/or brown sugar. Leave meat in the brine for roughly 1 hour per pound of meat.
Top meat with mango chutney, apple sauce, cranberry sauce, red pepper jelly.
If you have a problem with meat, try other sources of protein, e.g., poultry, fish/seafood, eggs, legumes, tofu, beefless, ground nuts/seeds, cheese, Greek yogurt, dairy products, higher protein milk, milk alternatives (e.g., soy milk), protein powder.
Replace ground beef in recipes with meat/beefless alternatives, lentils, or tofu, to make your favourite spaghetti sauce or shepherd’s pie.
If everything tastes salty, try adding maple syrup or honey.
Eat ingredients cold to soften strong tastes.
Choose very soft foods or blended foods that require less chewing to reduce the amount of time the food is in contact with the taste buds.
Try foods which you used to love in the past, which bring back memories of happy occasions.
Eat bland foods to reduce expectations.
Eat meals while distracted through social interactions, TV, playing games, etc.
